Dr. Isaac Arnquist

Dr. Isaac Arnquist is an analytical chemist whose research has focused on developing ultrasensitive assay methods for the determination of thorium, uranium, and potassium in ultralow background detector materials.

Dr. Arnquist utilizes meticulously clean chemistry preparations and lab practices to reduce backgrounds, so that he can more sensitively measure extremely small quantities of naturally-occurring radio-impurities using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). He has attained some of the lowest detection limits for U, Th, and K in a variety of detector materials, including copper, polymers, Nal scintillators, and a variety of other materials.
